Confused About Pages vs Profiles For Businesses & Companies

Page vs Profile

  1. Profiles are designed specifically across ALL social channels for Individuals: People not Businesses,
  2. Profiles (on Facebook) are limited to 5000 Friends whereas Pages can have unlimited followers/fans/likers,
  3. Pages (on Facebook) have access to Insight Data and Metrics for lead generation and niche targeting,
  4. Pages (on Facebook) have the ability to create internally linked tabbed pages using Apps and HTML landing pages for opt-ins, eCommerce and the like (See the Big Picture Below),
  5. Pages (on Facebook) can generate buzz using Advertising, Promotions, Events, Offers, and additional PPC & Sponsored marketing,
  6. Profiles look very unprofessional when acting as a Business. To the unknowing it may not seem relevant yet to the professional world, who have access to the same information you do on the internet about operating in accordance with policies set forth by the social forums, it just looks plain sloppy, unprofessional and screams “inauthentic practices are tolerated by this company”. Do you really want anyone thinking THAT about YOU and YOUR BUSINESS? We think NOT!!!
  7. Privacy is different for each. Profiles can set privacy and protections, have access to settings that limit who can see posts and photos, timelines and comments. Profiles have the ability to hide and protect personal data if setup correctly, yet this also limits engagement with the masses, for if you should allow default settings and majority of your data is then public you risk exposure to hackers and scammers. Best practices would be to setup your Profile to hide most everything from all but your REAL FRIENDS/FAMILY – yet again doing so limits how you can engage with the public. On the UPSIDE Pages are 100% Public with means to limit certain posts to Followers/Fans/Likers, however your ability to ENGAGE and Connect with your Audience is increased exponentially. Love
  8. Profiles are logged into and maintained solely by YOU, the Individual who owns it… well that’s how it’s meant to be! Pages can have as many Admins as you like, each assigned with a specific limit of control to the account as prescribed by the main Authority for the Business Page i.e. YOU. Learn about the 5 Admin Roles here in the FAQs. Facebook is not the only one with Admin functions for Business/Company pages; Google and LinkedIn also offer this functionality, and LinkedIn also allows employees to connect and list themselves with their specific employers Page.

  9. Pages can Schedule posts, Profiles cannot. Why, you may ask, is this important? This allows you to spread out multiple content posts across a specific time frame WITHOUT you having to be there AND it avoids the somewhat unprofessional act of mass posting all at once at any given time… nothing worse than a Profile or Page posting 10 different things all inside of an hour. Frown
  10. Pages can have the ability appended to it for people to ‘Check In’, this is especially relevant if you are a Local Business seeking Local Traffic.
  11. When using your Facebook as your Profile as long as you have enabled to Post as your Page from within your Page’s settings no matter where you go on Facebook when you click ‘Share’ you will be able to choose to post to your Page and it will Post to your Page as your Page.
  12. Profiles have Genders and Birthdays – Looks pretty silly when a business is assigned a gender and notifications are sent out to Friends stating “[Business Name]’s Birthday is Today”… Business Pages have business relevant data that cannot be confused.
