Your Business’ First Impressions

What exactly are Business First Impressions?

First Impressions are for businesses as they are for you. It is your image, what people see first when they are introduced to you, whether that be directly or indirectly; personally, professionally, informally, or formally. Your business’ first impression are not that dissimilar and require the same attention as you apply to your own image. This era of business is evolving into a very social atmosphere and this requires any and all businesses to look at ways to introduce themselves to new leads via these platforms. Thus in turn your business’ profile must be ‘dressed to impress’.

So how do we begin examining our business profiles… our first impressions?

First of all we must identify all the ways in which our business is on display to the public, and at times the private. These can include social media profiles for your business pages, your web site, your forum posts or comments, your blog posts or comments on others blog posts, landing or squeeze pages, newsletters, anything in print, press releases and other media. Last but not least, the most often ignored or unrealized first impression when reviewing your business, is your personal profiles. If they are attached visibly to your business page then you must also take into consideration how your personal profile affects your business. This includes those who are Admins on Facebook pages and employees of businesses on LinkedIn.

First things first… Your Home page, Social Media and analytics

The Home Page is your business’ front cover. It is usually the first place anyone lands when they go searching. Imagine if you were a reader visiting your site.

  1. Does your Home page speak multitudes in a pleasing and attractively presented manner without an over-abundance of initial content?
  2. Is the site easily navigated and do those navigations lead to the required information thus attracting the potential reader to seek more?
  3. Does the front page clearly state the services and solutions that can be FOUND on the site?
  4. Is your site linked to other sites?
  5. Check your page analytics are in place and functioning.
  6. Your pages should all carry the same branding theme – colors, logos, identification

Digital marketing is the key to any businesses success and can take any business to new levels with the web being global. It is essential to set up and maintain social profiles for your business.

  1. Check your social media links. Are they all there and functioning?
  2. Are your profiles up to date, branded, and complete.
  3. Your business should be linked to each of your social media platforms and those linked to each other.
  4. Proper SEO across the board – your Home page especially must contain your most vital keywords and terms.
  5. Google and other Search Engines will not crawl sites that are poorly structured and they will definitely not index them correctly so as to be found via popular search strings.
  6. Check various search engines entering popular keywords and phrases to see if you site ranks on the first listings page.

Key point : a potential lead should never have to go looking for traces of your business on the internet, you should be easy to find.

What steps can we take to review and address our first impressions?

Spend some time reviewing your web site and other business pages.

Is your site outdated?

  • Look at upgrading to a modern business site to suit the current web & mobile market
  • Must contain up to date, quality, user friendly, resourceful, client valued content (first and foremost)
  • Look at the whole site. Is it in need of consolidation? Is it clear and concise to the reader so it is transparent what is offered?
  • Services and Solutions need to be clearly defined and categorized so that they speak to the potential client

Do they contain appropriately positioned links to your other content?

  • The most important and relevant URL links (including menu navigation) must be placed in key positions
  • They must draw quantitative attention, and generate leads
  • Varied links should point to relevant, up to date, content
  • Keep them labelled according to the content so that readers can identify easily what they will find following
  • Links should be used to direct readers to where they can obtain further information about the services and products on offer.
  • Give your reader the simplest explanation with links to more information on specific topics, let the reader decide to go further

Landing pages should be kept simple with appropriate information

  • Keep landing pages clean, fresh and uncluttered
  • The message must be clear to the reader and visually appealing
  • Kept affiliate marketing to a minimum and related to the content

 Some final key points

  1. Too much information about too many things on one page is confusing to the consumer – Be Clear
  2. Too much information on one page causes strain to readers and will not achieve quantitative leads – Be Concise
  3. If the information is not presented in an appealing manner it will go unread and sales will be lost – Be Creative
